1. Do not feel absolutely certain of anything.

2. Do not think it worth while to proceed by concealing evidence, for the evidence is sure to come light.
어떤 것을, 증거를 은폐하는 방법으로 처리해도 좋을 만큼 가치 있다고 생각지 말라. 그 증거는 반드시 백일하에 드러나니까.
3. Never try to discourage thinking for you are sure to succeed.
필히 성공할 것으로 판단되는 생각을 절대로 단념하지 말라.
4. When you meet with opposition, even if it should be from your husband or your children, endeavour to overcome it by argument and not by authority, for a victory dependent upon authority is unreal and illusory.
반대에 부딪힐 경우, 설사 반대자가 당신의 아내나 자식이라 하더라도, 권위가 아닌 논쟁을 통해 극복하도록 노력하라. 권위에 의존한 승리는 비실제적이고 허황된 것이기 때문이다.
5.Have no respect for the authority of others, for there are always contrary authorities to be found.
다른 사람들의 권위를 존중하지 말라. 그 반대의 권위들이 항상 발견되기 마련이니까.
6. Do not use power to suppress opinions you think pernicious, for if you do the opinions will suppress you.
유해하다고 생각되는 견해들을 억누르기 위해 권력을 이용하지 말라. 그렇게 하면 그 견해들이 당신을 억누를 것이다.
7. Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric.
유별난 견해를 갖는 것을 두려워하지 말라. 지금 인정받고 있는 모든 견해들도 한때는 유별나다는 취급을 받았으니까.
8. Find more pleasure in intelligent dissent than in passive agreement, for, if you value intelligent as you should, the former implies a deeper agreement than the latter.
수동적인 동의보다는 똑똑한 반대에서 더 큰 기쁨을 찾아라. 현명한 지성을 소중하게 여기는 것은 당연한 태도이며, 그렇게 할 때 똑똑한 반대에는 수동적인 동의보다 더 깊은 의미의 동의가 함축되어 있다.
9. Be scrupulously truthful, even if the truth is inconvenient, for it is more inconvenient when you try to conceal it.
비록 진실 때문에 불편할지라도 철저하게 진실을 추구하라. 그것을 숨기려다 보면 더 불편해진다.
10. Do not feel envious of the happiness of those who live in a fool’s paradise, for only a fool will think that it is happiness.
